How do I determine what size burner I need for the Ceramic Fire Logs for my fireplace?

Fire Logs are typically used with Rasmussen Rectangular Pan Burners, Open Front Pan Burners or Junior Open Front with Grate. A standard single-sided fireplace will have a back wall that is narrower than the front opening. The widest part of the pan burner/grate should not be wider than your back wall, while leaving a minimum 3 inch gap next to the front corners. A standard double-sided fireplace is rectangular; therefore a Rectangular Pan Burner is ideal. There should be a minimum 3 inch gap from the edge of the pan burner/grate to the fireplace wall.

How do I determine what size log set I need for my fireplace?

Once you have determined the pan burner size, you will need the coordinating ceramic set size. For example, if you need an 18" Rectangular Pan Burner, then you will need an 18" Ceramic Log set.

Do I need filler?

Filler is recommended when using fax logs. About 2" of Volcanic Ash or Silica Sand should be placed below the set, over the burner. Volcanic ash is used in propane/LP and all outdoor applications. Silica Sand for indoor natural gas.

Can I install burner and logs myself?

Yes. It's a simple process. You can install any component of the system by yourself. However, if you feel uncomfortable, please call a professional to assist you.

Will your ceramic fireplace logs work in Direct Vent or B-Vent applications?

Ceramic logs set available on Blazing Logs website are certified for fully vented fireplaces and fire pits. Direct Vent and B-Vent units are typically sold as certified systems and replacing parts of the system may void the certification and/or warranty, and is not recommended.

Do the ceramic fire logs get black soot?

Yes. The trade-off of having a realistic, wood-like, yellow flame is the production of soot in a fully vented application. Ceramics paired with a burner creating yellow flames will result in black soot on the Ceramic Balls, Stones and Shapes.

How do I clean the soot on the fire logs?

Although most people feel that soot is natural looking, others do not care for it. The soot can be brushed or vacuumed away. Also, you can spray the sooty area with water from a spray bottle while the ceramics are hot (but not when lit) and the soot dislodges and goes up the chimney.

Do logs emit odors or fumes?

The ceramics are composed of a concrete-ceramic compound and do not emit odors or fumes. The color stains applied to the Natural colored Balls, Stones or Shapes are made of ceramic and do not create any odors when burned.
